Last Wrist Update for a While

Last update for a while - which is thankfully a good thing. Went and got the wrist checked out today (in the new medical Center at 85 and El Camino - where my surgeon's office is now located).

He checked out the wrist - it all looks great - and then I got him to check out my thumb from the 7/7 Big Burton. He x-rayed it and manipulated it and nothing's broken - just give it some time.

I need to schedule one final wrist check up in six month's time (ie early in 2008) and then it's all over!

The "success" continues - yay!

7/7/07 - lucky my ass...

Given all the hype about people getting married on 7/7/07 and how it is supposed to be an awesomely lucky day, I hereby post to assert that I was not part of that luck.

It all started with my biggest burton yet. True, after last week's new personal best time on my Saturday mountain bike ride, I decided about 3 miles into the ride to try and at least match that time - that was my downfall.

On a piece of downhill single track, I was trying just a little too hard, caught the front wheel in the sand just off where I intended to be, felt the front twist and recover (hooray, I thought I'd saved it), then catch on something and I feel the rear wheel rise in to the air (uh-oh - maybe I didn't save it) only to find myself pitched over the handlebars.

Duck and roll mentality kicked in and a survived relatively OK apart from hurting my left thumb and bruising my back and my left knee. Unfortunately that's not the whole story...
Later that day, I was heating up a pizza in the oven and went to retrieve it - using my left hand (I am left handed) with its bad thumb to retrieve the pizza from the depths of the oven.

I lost control of the pizza and true to form, it fell on to the open oven door, UPSIDE DOWN. It was only there for about a second before it was retrieved, but every piece of topping was now glued to the over door or the floor necessitating a clean up process that carried on in to today (7/8).

Those two things combined with not getting a winner with a lottery ticket convinced me that I was not part of the 7/7/07 phenomena.

Post Script - at time of typing (about 18 hours after the big burton) the thumb is coming along - it's still sore, stiff and vaguely painful (and blue), but it's getting more mobile by the hour - I think I just bruised it - yay!
